A Bad Monkey Experience
About 3 years ago, I was after an overdrive pedal just to crank the JCM800. The idea of the pedal is that overloads the input and also does some favourable tonal shaping. I was thinking about a tubescreamer but after reading the reviews decided to get a badmonkey as they were more flexible, cheaper and had a louder output
I love the pedal, it effectively added another channel to the JCM800 and gives loads of different distortions sounds, esp when coupled with Guv'nor (which does sound like a JCM800). So the current setup is Whammy -> Wah -> Guv'nor -> badmonkey -> amp (effects loop ) -> temporal effects, including delay
The Bad monkey does a nice pushed/punky crunchy sound on the clean channel and smooths, tightens and raises volume of the JCM800 dirty channel. The guv'nor teleports to the high gain lands.
So, that is the end of the story except this came out yesterday.
This basically states, all those expensive custom pedals which you yearn for, well you can't hear the difference to this cheap pedal. Suddenly, the prices sky rockets (600 USD +) and everyone is weighing in with a opinion
The best is the video creators response
To the people complaining that I raised the price on this pedal and “now you can’t buy one,” I would like to remind you you had 19 years, but you never cared. This pedal has existed four years longer than JHS as a company, and most guitarists have hated on it since day one. No one kept you from trying it in 2004. Learn to listen with your ears and not trends, and you will be a much happier guitarist.
Next: People will list them for ridiculous prices, and it’s extremely easy to not to buy them at those prices. Just wait. They will return to normal, and people will move on to the next thing.
One more thing: people listing for $600 and people buying them for $600 are two very different things. Sit back, relax, and enjoy guitar with what you have. The point of the episode was to help you see that what you have is enough.
I was thinking what in my life is a Bad Monkey experience, Something I have had along and I just needed to be reminded of it. Maybe I have treasures all along and I just needed was to be reminded that? What actually is valuable to me How often is my opinion mirroring others than listening to what I think? How much is the world shaping me?
