Goodbye Lubuntu, Hello Lxle

Posted by Andy in Tech

I've been a loyal ubuntu user ever since the first Warty release thanks to the fine efforts of Michael Sullivan and the inability of RedHat enterprise to find most of the hardware on my then cutting-edge work Pc. As the distribution has increased in popularity, so has the dependencies, library and I've found for my hardware, ubuntu lost it "snappyness". I first dabbled my toe in the waters of Xubuntu and then Lubuntu was a life-saver when working with machine with only 1GB memory shared with the GPU.

However, The latest saucy edition of Lubuntu just hasn't sat right with my Thinkpad. The sound is unreliable, systems kept on breaking and it just didn't work. I seem to spend more time on the commandline killing things then using the interface. So I've decided to reinstall and I've found lxle which seems to satisfy my main needs of an ubuntu core, update apps via PPA, lxde and hopefully some stability. I'm currently downloading and the next post should be from my shinny new system
