Music of the moment

Posted by Andy in Music

Its been a while since I've blogged so I thought I would share what has currently been rocking my work world.

As I've access to Youtube, I've been desk bopping to the following albums :

  1. The Uplift Mofo Party Plan -- The last album before Hillel (guitarist>`_ OD'ed and the drummer subsequently left. Being a really big fan of the music of Blood Sugar Sex magic and quite unimpressed with Mother's Milk, I was a bit suspicious of this album as the really early RHCP work is quite terrible but this one won me over as it is really funky, heavy at points but melodic. I love behind the sun & walking down the road for its laid back groove. You can clearly see where Future guitarist John gets his inspiration from
  2. Paul's Botique -- I stumbled across this epic album after a track was played on Radcliffe and Maconie. I would claim it's from the golden age of hip-hop and sampling as the tracks have hundreds of samples/sick beats which were licensed on the cheap -- something which wouldn't possible these days. The dynamic/theme range is impressive
  3. Straight out of compton -- Impressive for the way it combines funk/samples into an angry explicit ridden mix which expresses the disillusionment of black youths in america. Sad thing is that the content seems still highly relevant
  4. Jaco Pastorius -- An amazing album of bass playing occasionally accompanied by musicians visiting his planet
  5. Rage against the machine/Audioslave -- I've been digging evil empire and the audioslave back catalog for the vast amount of sonic space in songs whilst maintaining intensity
  6. Kings X -- Faith, Hope and Love and basically the whole back catalog has been deskbooging for a while -- I can see why I didn't like them first time round -- They are just too different from mainstream rock and not instant radio-Rock classics, but on repeat listening, they have a monster sound, long songs, harmonies and lots of sonic space
  7. Jennifer Knapp -- Deep words and good tunes, so much more than component parts.
