Pi house

We inherited a nice sound system from some migrating swedish medics and during the house renovation, we incorporated the system into the music room. The sound system can play records, the radio and cds but its full potiental was never really matched. The majority of our music is sitting on an ancient EEEPc laptop server on an external harddrive.

The answer is a new shinny Raspberrypi3 (with built-in wifi) with a Hardware soundcard (I went for one from one + case from IQaudio ). My initial thought were to use a custom-made mpd-esq distrobution like Volumio but is seems that route lead to problems as each release effectively freezes the os and any updates/modifications which would be required for RPI3 would break the system. In the end, I plumped for Raspbian and used an image with the sound card preconfigured. After update to the latest version (via an older pi), I'm installed mopidy as an all-singing, all-dancing sound system. It seems to work well and looks easily hackable esp as is coded in python. There are most streaming/local options available and there are some funky web extensions as well as an iOs/android app
