Second Hand Tele

Posted by Andy in Music

I've always been a sensible man but I've bought a second hand Tele(caster) based solely on the colour of the finish. The latest cheese guitar is a Mexican telecaster with a midnight wine finish which beautifully matches the colour of my Mexican hot-rod Stratocaster. The guitar is in a lovely condition and the previous owner only used it at the weekends for G-C-D (poor joke, I know).

I've always been a strat-man - I love the blues neck pickup; the funky 2 pickup sounds and the screaming bridge pickup. All this combined with a whammy bar is a killer combination which I've loved (and still do) for years. However, I'm trying to branch out of the musical rut I've been in for a bit - I'm moving into more rhythmic approach with some new scale ideas thrown in. However, whenever I pick up the strats, I feel like I'm channeling Jon Frusciante circ 1990- Blood sugar sex magic. funky clean rhythm and screaming leads. The new tele sits between the strat and my Mumford&Sons esq acoustic thrashing sound - I love the non-smoothed edges and the rougher, working feel - The strat is a work of art, this guitar is a handtool, strong tough and ready to work. Soundwise I feel I'm emulating Steve Cropper, a bit of the boss, some Dropped-D Rage against the machine with some bonus punk : )

Maybe the differences between the sounds are just in my head but guitars are like sunglasses, you can never have enough
