Coffee: Friend or Foe

Posted by Andy in Misc

I've been drinking coffee regularly since 2001! It all started by sitting next to the drippy coffee machine during my PhD and having a monster mug. Over time, I've got used to drinking loads of coffee and moving to Hungary didn't help. The bucket of coffee has been replaced by a multitude of espresso. Since November, I've stopped drinking coffee cold turkey and it was interesting. The first thing which appeared was the headache, a dull throbbing ache which took over 5 days to go. I was then constantly tired, I nearly fell asleep at my desk, I ached, all which was coupled with nausea and general grumpyness. It seems that [withdrawal is medical condition] (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3777290/) but now about 5 weeks, I'm back to normal. (Some studies state that caffeine addicts never return to normal). Well, actually better than normal. I'm not so generally anxious and frantic

The big question is should I drink coffee again? I love the taste, the dark, bitter flavour coupled with the crema layer is divine. it is relatively healthy (esp with no milk/sugar) and very sociable. The question is can I regulate coffee? It is very easy to abstain from something as you always say no but self control is another. The battle will be having only one or two coffee/day ...
