OSMC

Posted by Andy in Tech

Our rather nice TV has been powered by a RaspberryPi from day 1. The discover of Openelec) enabled a relatively easy install of Kodi. These were the early Pi days and there were very little alternatives. The binary image JeOS blob just worked well. However, over time, the updates introduced a few bugs, the updated became more infrequent, the pi started to crash during use and the interface got slower. I also tried LibreElec but that introduced a few different bugs and also ground the pi into the ground with the UI being unusable.

My latest discovery was OSMC.

This system seems to be very stable (no crashes so far) with all the working features of the *elec systems and a very funky intuitive ui. The icing of the case is that the binary image blog is replaced by a stripped down version of Debian meaning that individual components can be updated (by apt-get) hopefully resulting in a stable but updated system.
