Nearly Midi time

Posted by Andy in music

I have been searching for a while for a Roland gr-55 and midi pickup. I'm the sole accompanying instrument at church and I'm getting bored of playing all the songs - I need a challenge and something new. I've tried playing keys but I suck badly.

The solution for different sounds is to use a midi pickup and play piano, but using the guitar as the trigger. This needs a little rethinking of how to play but should be easier and less painful for everyone

I randomly found someone in Szeged selling the midi set-up of my dreams for a nicely reduced amount. So I bought the pickup and associated pedal and was heading to synth land until I tried to install the pickup on any of my guitars. The Roland GK3 pick is tall and it won't fit under the strings of any steel-strung guitar. I'm also not modifying the guitar with neck shims just to fit a pickup

The current solution/idea is to buy another guitar scratchplate and add a suitable slot. This would then look like a normal pick up and be adjusted as required
