Revamping Van Morrison

Posted by Andy in Music

I often listen to sounds of the sixties on a Saturday when cleaning the kitchen. We have a couple of JBL flip speakers running in stereo which go round me with when I clean. 60s music was the birth of stereo and you can tell as lots of tracks have simple hard panning. One instrument in 100% in the left, another in right. This gives a weird music sound if you only have one speaker. Except, this weekend, Van morrision's Brown-eyed girl come on and I got the bass/drum and vocals. This rocked, I loved the stripped out version, I was never a fan of the guitars on this track. So I've made a stereo version of the left track - Van morrison's brown (one) eyed girl . I really love just the bass and drum, you can really hear so much details of the instruments, particularly the reverb on drums and vocals. The ghosts of the other instruments also pop in a little.

This panning trend continued but became a little more refined into the 70s, Van Halen I has the guitar panned left but with the reverb on the right.
