Big bottoms
This post isn't an ode to the best ever song written
My marshall JCM800 seems to have a floppy bottom. It isn't structurally unsound but when cranked with pedals overloading the input, the high-lead notes are fat, sustaining and sweet. However, powerchords and low end riffage seems to splurge. The sound is muddy, loose and lacks definition -- Floppy bottom. Its sounds like a jelly, one pluck results in a wobbly booming tone
It seems that the solution is very unrock - turn down the bass, boost the middles. The easiest way to do this is use an overdrive pedal with a mild bass cut. This results in a slightly tighter sound which has more percussive edge and greater definition and is great in the context of a band (or cranked CD track)
It seems that it isn't just me who has this issue --> https://www.rig-talk.com/forum/threads/nuno-bettencourts-secret-sauce-the-rat-pedal.273751/
How could I leave this behind?
