Melancholy with the Muppets

Posted by Andy in Thoughts

This blog post started with me wondering if the world has got louder. Men don't have cold, we have flu; Polticians promise bigger better; This amp goes to 11 and so on

I was thinking about the non-happy side of life and what Music/Expression I have for that side. I realised that everything I have is at the far extremes of music. Now, there have times that I've been down, depressed, crushed, broken, beaten but there are other times where I'm just not ok.

Where do I turn? what do I listen to

Well, this song is the one for me

This is a cover of a Billy Joel song but somehow this version seems to be more melancholy then the orginal or the other muppet version. It seems that the singer, by no way an amazing singer, conveys an urge of being content where they are, its not the best in the world but its their world and they won't want anything else. Through the gaps, broken vocals, you get the rays of hope and feel your spirits lifting, moving from melancholy to a better place.

I then started to thing of the other songs which help me in this way I came up with

This is crazy, the most non-heavy but real feelings I get from a song is from the muppets! A Tv show for children! Maybe that is the magic of the special TV shows which transcend children. They admit the world can be a little dark, people can be a little broken but moving from that melancholy space is possible and there is hope! That's why they are timeless - The nearest program I can find to this is BLUEY. An austrialian animated blue dog who is full of fun but there are moments of tears/ouchies but outstanding hope. Maybe the world is louder as we don't have the middle ground Thank goodness for children TV!

BTW, this is my other go to song but its a bit more deeper
